OceanFirst Foundation Awards Algonquin Arts Theatre $20,000 for Lighting Cable Replacement

August 14, 2015

MANASQUAN, N.J. (August 14, 2015) This summer Algonquin Arts Theatre replaced the electrical wiring system that supplies power to the theatre's entire lighting grid thanks to a generous $20,000 grant by OceanFirst Foundation of Toms River.

The OceanFirst Foundation's funds were crucial for us to be able to make these upgrades," said Algonquin Arts Theatre Managing Director Pamela Ward. After years of wear and tear, the old system needed to be replaced and this grant will allow the lights to come up safely and efficiently hundreds of times per year for our musicals, plays, concerts and other events."

Since 1997, OceanFirst Foundation has played a leading role in the growth of Algonquin Arts Theatre to leading regional performing arts center. In total, the Foundation has contributed $741,833 in both capital and operating funds through 28 grants.

Work on project was completed in June and July during breaks in the theatre's busy on stage schedule. In all, nearly three miles of cable with more than 400 break out and coupling connections were installed during the project. Stretched end to end, the cable installed would stretch from downtown Manasquan, across the Route 35 Bridge to Jenkinson's Boardwalk in Point Pleasant Beach.

The wiring system upgrades included replacing primary electrical trunks with industry-standard Socapex to all functional lighting stations including both back stage and in on the front of house truss and box booms, the systems on which lights are mounted.

All connections in the system were updated to industry standard stage pin connectors to supply a total of 120 lighting instrument locations. Additionally, the project replaced strip lights that illuminate the cyclorama, the large curtain backdrop to the stage.
