Sally Struthers And Carter Calvert Begin Rehearsals For Always Patsy Cline

Duo to Star at Algonquin Arts Theatre for Six Performances Across Two Weekends from Jan. 25 to Feb. 3

MANASQUAN, N.J. (Jan. 22, 2013) � Emmy Award winner Sally Struthers and Broadway star Carter Calvert have been rehearsing on the Algonquin Arts Theatre stage this week in advance of "Always Patsy Cline," which opens Friday, Jan. 25, for a six performance run through Feb. 3.

"These are the two biggest stars to appear on this stage together," said William Whitefield, Executive Director of Algonquin Arts Theatre. "We always pride ourselves on presenting high-quality performances, but this is a big leap for us. From the set and the production team to the live band and, obviously, the resumes of these actors, we're excited to showcase such a great production."

Struthers plays the role of Houston housewife and Patsy Cline superfan Louise Seger � a role for which she recently won Best Actress at the Los Angeles Artistic Director Theatre Awards. Calvert shines as Patsy Cline, expertly and beautifully singing favorites including "Crazy," "Anytime" and "Walkin' After Midnight."

"Always Patsy Cline" is sponsored by Savvy Style. Opening night is Friday, Jan. 25, at 8 p.m. and performances continue on Saturday, Jan. 26, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 27, at 3 p.m. The second weekend of shows will be Friday, Feb. 1, and Saturday, Feb. 2, at 8 p.m.; and Sunday, Feb. 3, at 3 p.m.

Tickets are available online at algonquinarts.org, by calling 732-528-9211 or by stopping in to the box office (12-6 p.m. weekdays, 12-4 p.m. Saturdays) at 173 Main Street. Tickets start at $28 for adults, $26 for seniors and $18 for students. All tickets are subject to $2 processing fees.

Struthers won two Emmy Awards and Golden Globe Awards for her performances in the groundbreaking TV series "All in the Family." She's also starred in the Fox television series "9 to 5," her own CBS series "Gloria" and the CW network's highly acclaimed "Gilmore Girls," where she played the neighbor, Babette.

Struthers was also heard in prime-time on ABC as the voice of the teenage dinosaur "Charlene Sinclair" in "Dinosaurs." For anyone too young to remember "All in the Family," they may recognize Struthers as the voice of "Pebbles Flintstone" on the Pebbles and Bam-Bam cartoon series and the lead female character on the popular Disney cartoon "Tailspin."

Often recognized for her work helping the hungry and uneducated children everywhere, Struthers appeared in numerous public service announcements and documentaries.

Starring alongside Manasquan High School alumnus Jack Nicholson in the feature film "Five Easy Pieces," Struthers' has a long list of stage credits including Broadway appearances in the Tommy Tune production of "Grease" and in Neil Simon's version of "The Odd Couple." She took the role of Miss Mamie Lynch in "Grease" on tour, as she did with the coveted role of Miss Hannigan in the 20th Anniversary National Tour of "Annie."

Calvert has earned critical acclaim throughout her career, originating her role in the Tony nominated "It Ain't Nothin' But The Blues" on Broadway. She has also toured extensively in Europe in "Smokey Joe's Café" and featured in the lead role of Grizabella in the Broadway national tour of "Cats." She still appears around the country in "Neil Berg's 100 Years of Broadway."

Calvert is an accomplished voice-over artist and can be heard in numerous national commercials including Wendy's, Voom, MTV, Charles Schwab and the Amazon Kindle Fire.

Roger Cohen, Calvert's husband, and his trio back Carter on her most recently record "Carter Calvert and the Roger Cohen Trio" that debuted at No. 13 on the jazz charts. Cohen plays the drums in this production of "Always Patsy Cline."

Calvert has appeared on television on "The David Letterman Show," "Rosie O'Donnell Show," and "The Today Show," and in concert has opened for Liza Minnelli, The Temptations, Chubby Checker, Marilyn McCoo and others.

Downbeat Magazine named her Best Female Jazz Vocalist while she was still in high school and in 1993 was named Best Female Vocalist of the Year by Starsong Records. Of her latest album, The New York Times said: "Carter Calvert effervesces: her voice echoes chimes in the night."
