MANASQUAN, N.J. (September 7, 2016) - Nearly 4,500 patrons made Algonquin Arts Theatre "Part of Their World" this summer during Disney's Little Mermaid, and their individual contributions of $11,000 were generously matched by 'Broadway Ray' Soehngen when he presented an $11,000 check to the theatre last month.

The sponsor of Disney's "The Little Mermaid," Broadway Ray backed the Little Mermaid Matching Gift Campaign from which funds will be used to support the Algonquin's education programs and also underwrite tuitions for the Algonquin's Performing Arts Academy, which includes the Algonquin Youth Ensemble.

The attendees of the three weekends of performances in July generously gave a combined $11,000 toward the campaign, which was matched by Soehngen. His former employer, GE, has matching funds program through the GE Foundation, which will bring the total sum raised to $33,000.

"Broadway Ray has a unique passion for Algonquin Arts Theatre and the performing arts in general," said Algonquin Arts Theatre executive director Pamela Ward. "Ray came to each performance of The Little Mermaid and personally challenged all of our patrons to invest in our future - and backed up his challenge with a generous matching gift."

Soehngen, a long-time resident of Wall who now resides in Brick, runs bus trips to see Broadway shows in New York City. He has a gift for helping organizations raise much needed funds and giving back to his community. These include Exit 82 Theatre Company, Brick Children's Community Theater (BCCT), Troopers Assisting Troops (TAT), Women of Irish Heritage, Jersey Shore, Inc., Ocean County Vocational/Technical Performing Arts Academy (OCVTS), Manasquan High School Drama Club, and Algonquin Arts Theatre.

This is the third such matching gift campaign supported by Broadway Ray. In April of 2013, through patron contributions and the match from Soehngen and GE Foundation, the Algonquin raised more than $30,000. Last summer, more than $24,000 was raised through a similar program during the Algonquin production of "Hairspray."

Contributions from individuals, organizations and corporations are critical for both operating and making capital improvements to Algonquin Arts Theatre. For more information on how you can support the theatre, please contact Teresa Staub 732-528- 4336 or visit algonquinarts.org.
