World's Best Short Films Return To The Algonquin: Asbury Shorts New York Celebrates 35 Years With An Amazing Lineup of Award-Winning Films

MANASQUAN, N.J. (Feb. 29, 2016) Asbury Shorts, New York's longest running short film exhibition, returns to the Algonquin on Saturday, March 12 with their nationally touring exhibition: "The 35th Anniversary Short Film Concert."

To celebrate this milestone, producer Doug LeClaire will present a "Best of Asbury Shorts" line up featuring audience favorites from past years. The first film hits the screen at 8 p.m.

Sea Girt resident Diane Raver, founder of the Garden State Film Festival, will serve as the evening's guest host.

The event is sponsored by Linda P. Hejduk & Peter A. Flihan of Mantoloking.

Combining classic short films with current global festival winners, Asbury Shorts provides a rare opportunity for audiences to view international honorees on a real cinema screen as opposed to You Tube, computers or smart phones.

Oscar nominated director Jason Reitman ("JUNO," "Up in the Air," "Thank You for Smoking" "Young Adult") calls Asbury Shorts: "The best short film show I've ever seen."

Tickets cost $13 (including all per-ticket fees) and are available online at algonquinarts.org, by calling 732-528-9211 or at the Algonquin Box Office at 173 Main Street in Manasquan. Hours are weekdays 12-6 p.m. and Saturdays from 12-4. Tickets will also be available at the door when the Box Office opens at 7 p.m. on March 12.

The short film concert is recommended for audiences ages 16 & above.

Highlights of the March 12 show include:

"RUST"

This short documentary follows an artist in Nova Scotia, Canada who creates pieces from found metal around his property. Allowing the metal to rust he utilizes nature as his "co artist." Director Ben Proudfoot from Halifax won "Best Short Film" at the Shelburne International Film Expo this past September in Canada.

"FAIT D'HIVER"

A classic dark comedy short from Belgium director Dirk Belien. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film in 2003.

"LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT"

Two people in their '70's discover it's never too late for love at first sight. The short stars film and theater actors John Hurt and Phylida Law. Nominated for a British Academy Award for Best Short Film.

Asbury Shorts "concerts" have been presented at: The Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Lake Shore Theatre in Chicago, The Bijou in Bridgeport, Ct., Summer Stage in Central Park, Director's Guild Theater in Manhattan, The AERO Theatre in Santa Monica, CA, Royal Festival Hall in London, U.K., The Leminske Theater in Berlin, Germany � and for five consecutive years at Algonquin Arts Theatre!
