'RENT' pre-audition workshop set for Feb 27

The Algonquin Arts Theatre in Manasquan will continue its tradition of offering a musical production this summer that will feature local and regional talent.

This year’s selection is “RENT,” directed and produced by the New Jersey Youth Theatre [NJYT] in collaboration with the New Jersey Performing Arts Center [NJPAC] and Algonquin Arts, the presenters of the production.

Auditions will be held on Saturday, April 3, at 1 p.m. on the Algonquin stage, or on Saturday, April 10, in the Victoria Lobby at NJPAC, located at 1 Center St. in Newark.

To better prepare individuals who intend to audition, director Cynthia Meryl will host a pre-audition workshop on next Saturday, Feb. 27, from 1 until 3 p.m. at Algonquin Arts, located at 173 Main St. in Manasquan.

The workshop is free and space is limited to 30 students interested in auditioning.

Anyone attending the workshop or initial audition must be between the ages of 16 and 23, and must prepare a song for the show. A pianist will be provided at the workshop auditions.

For more information or to register for the pre-audition workshop on Feb. 27, contact Julie Stanford at 732-528-9224, or e-mail julie@algonquinarts.org.

NJYT, NJPAC and Algonquin Arts each have an open casting policy and do not discriminate against race, religion, sex, disabilities or sexual orientation.
